Black Dogs Budweis

The ice at Hokejové centrum Pouzar is the setting Black Dogs Budweis have played in since a group of students at the Vysoká škola technická a ekonomická in České Budějovice put a team together in 2018 to carry the university's name onto the ice. Black, red and white are the club's colours, and the nickname stuck fast enough that the shorthand BDB now does the same job.

Their first season, in 2018/19, was a lesson in scale: ninth place in the Eastern Division of the European University Hockey League. The club moved to the Univerzitní liga ledního hokeje. A third-place finish in the 2019/20 regular season was left unresolved when the playoffs were cancelled, but bronze medals followed in 2021/22 and again in 2023/24, and by 2024/25 the club had gone one round further, reaching the final before losing it to UK Kings Prague. That match capped a rivalry already sharpened by the previous year's semi-final between the same two sides, while VŠE Falcons Prague pushed Budweis in the 2024/25 semi-final on the way there.

Jiří Irra runs things as general manager. On the ice, the captain's armband belongs to Jan Janoch.
