Giessen 46ers

Robin Benzing wears the captain's armband for a club whose best years he never saw play out live. Under the old name of Gießen Flippers, the team won the German Championship five times through the 1960s and 70s. That run belonged to a basketball department founded in 1937 inside MTV 1846 Gießen, long before anyone called the club the 46ers.

The name changed twice more after that — Avitos Gießen in the 1990s, then 46ers from 2000 — but the identity settled once players like Henning Harnisch and Heiko Schaffartzik came through and went on to wear Germany's shirt. The club returned to the top flight in 2015, only for relegation to catch up with it again in 2022.

Home games are played in front of red, white and black in a short trip from Frankfurt where FRAPORT SKYLINERS wait for the Hessen-Derby.

Five championships remain the number the club is still measured against.
