Nurnberger

In May 2019 the Nuremberg Falcons had done everything the court asked of them and were still told no. They finished third in the ProA regular season, won the playoffs against Gladiators Trier and MLP Academics Heidelberg, and reached the final against Hamburg Towers. They took the first game 90–87, lost the second 94–99 and finished as runners-up. Promotion to the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) was theirs on the floor. The league refused the licence anyway. The temporary "Eventpalast" tent the club played in did not meet infrastructure requirements, and the budget fell short.

The tent was a symptom of how the club had been living. It began in 2002 as the Franken Hexer, a joint project of several Middle Franconian clubs to bring on young players. In 2010 it merged with BBC Nürnberg, whose roots lay in the basketball section of DJK Falke Nürnberg, and became the Nürnberger Basketball Club. Then, in 2016, the main sponsor, rent4office, pulled out. The club was restructured as a GmbH and renamed the Falcons. It stayed alive through a crowdfunding campaign on fairplaid.org, backed by local businesses and fans.

Ralph Junge, a former player, was coach and managing director through the rescue and the 2019 push. Before that the team had reached the ProA semi-finals in 2013–14 and again in 2014–15.

This season, the tenth under the Falcons name, the club wore a red home shirt for the first time.
