Basketball in Essen's ETB grew inside a sports association. From 2006 to 2019 the team played as the ETB Wohnbau Baskets. In 2019 it became the ETB Miners , and the black and white colours carried over unchanged.

Chris Alexander scored more than 2,800 points for the club and finished as ProA's top scorer in 2014/15.

The Miners' recent record starts in the regional ranks. They won the Regionalliga West in 2023–24 and lost the Westphalian Basketball Association cup final (WBV-Pokal) the same season. Two seasons later, in 2025–26, they were ProB champions again.

The fixture list has no single rival that defines it.

Home games go to the Sportpark am Hallo on Ernestinenstraße in the 45141 postcode, a hall of 2,578 seats. Locals also call it the Halle am Hallo.
