Tigers Tübingen

In Tübingen the team is called the Tigerle , Swabian for "little tigers".

In 2002, a year after winning the second division, the Tigers were forced down a league because of a player registration error involving Roman Horvat. They won the 2. Basketball Bundesliga again in 2004, and that promotion brought two changes: a move from the Uhlandhalle to the Paul-Horn-Arena, and the sponsor name Walter Tigers, which stayed on the shirts until 2018.

The 2008 financial crisis was the closest the club came to disappearing. Robert Wintermantel , who had played for the team and later worked as its managing director, steadied it. The club then stayed in the top flight for 14 seasons, until relegation in 2018.

The 2022 ProA title should have been the way back, but the Tigers were refused a top-flight licence for financial reasons. That season they had been playing in Rottenburg, at the Volksbank-Arena, because of the pandemic. They reached the Bundesliga in 2023 and went straight back down in 2024 after a single season.

The club began in 1952 as the basketball section of SV 03 Tübingen, a multi-sport club founded in 1903. Its yellow and black colours and the Tigerle name both come from that local base.
