RheinStars Köln

Cologne's biggest basketball title came in 2006, when RheinEnergie Köln, as the side was then known, won the German Championship. It followed German Cups in 2004 and 2005, and a third came in 2007. Before that, BSC Saturn Köln had taken four championships in the 1980s, in 1981, 1982, 1987 and 1988. Those trophies belong to the predecessors. The current RheinStars Köln own none of them.

Marcin Gortat and Tibor Pleiß both passed through the lineage on their way to the NBA. It won the 2. Regionalliga West in 2014, then the 1. Regionalliga West in 2015 and again in 2020.

The hardest moment came off the court. In 2024 RheinStars won the Pro B North Zone and were still denied promotion to Pro A, because their arena did not meet the capacity requirements. The club then moved into the Basketball Campus hall at Motorworld Köln, which seats 1,700. They now play in Pro A, the second tier, with the Rheinderby against Bayer Giants Leverkusen on the calendar and the Kölner Basketball-Derby against Deutzer TV (DTV) closer to home.
