Kirchheim Knights

The Sporthalle Stadtmitte holds 1,800 people, which is enough for a ProA away trip but not for a Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) licence, and that gap has shaped the club twice over. In 2012 the Kirchheim Knights finished runners-up in the ProA final against MBC Weißenfels, earning sporting promotion to the BBL, only to be turned down for a licence because the arena's infrastructure fell short. Fourteen years later, after losing the 2025–26 ProA final to Phoenix Hagen, the club did not even bother applying.

Basketball in Kirchheim unter Teck goes back to 1957, played under the banner of the multi-sport VfL Kirchheim/Teck, itself founded in 1881. The name Kirchheim Knights only arrived in 2003, after a Regionalliga title, and in 2006 the basketball section broke away into its own company, VfL Kirchheim Knights, a step that gave the team the independence to push for the ProA.

Two players carry the local academy's name further than the town itself. Besnik Bekteshi, who came through Kirchheim's own youth ranks, was named ProA Youngster of the Year in 2015 before moving on to BBL sides; Stefan Ilzhöfer followed a similar path out of the same academy. Tidjan Keita, a French-Guinean forward who has played for the Guinea national team and in the NBA G League, spent the 2020–21 season in Kirchheim before moving on.

None of that has yet come with a league title or a German Cup run beyond the last 16, reached in 2026–27. What does draw a full house at the Sporthalle Stadtmitte is the Tigers Tübingen fixture, the Schwaben-Derby, the one date on the ProA calendar where the table goes out of the window.
