Grüner

Grünerhallen holds about 500 people. The address belongs to Grüner Ishockey, the winter-sports arm of a wider Oslo sports club whose story starts earlier and elsewhere. Ball- og Skiklubben av 1914 formed on 1 January 1914, but the hockey line runs through a separate outfit, Sportsklubben Strong, founded a year later and among the clubs that set up the Norwegian Ice Hockey Federation in 1934. In 1952 Strong merged with B14 and Sportsklubben Spero into Grüner Idrettslag.

That silverware amounts to one campaign. In 1947–48, still playing as Strong, the team topped the Hovedserien with 12 points, one clear of Mode, and took the Norwegian championship. Nothing since the 1952 merger has matched it.

Purple and black are the club colours, and GRU is how the results sheets shorten it. The team has bounced between divisions in recent seasons: promotion arrived for 2019–20 after Grüner got past Ringerike in the qualifiers, and relegation followed after 2022–23, sending them back down to the 1. divisjon. Geir Myhre started out here before his Norway career took shape elsewhere, and more recently the net has been minded by imports — Frenchman Quentin Papillon in 2021–22, Canadian Linden Marshall in 2024–25. Games against Manglerud Star and Vålerenga carry the Oslo-derby tag.
