Kolossos have made a habit of the great escape. Holargos B.C. sold its tax registration and its place in the Greek Basket League to Rhodes, and Kolossos simply carried on where a lesser club would have folded.

The team took its nickname, Thalassi, from the cyan and white it wears, and moved into the Kallithea Palais des Sports before the 2019–20 season. A top-flight title has never come to Rhodes, and the Greek Cup has gone no further than the quarter-finals. The closest thing to silverware sits in 2004–05, when Kolossos won the second division and earned promotion to the top tier, and in the Mavroskoufia tournament, claimed in 2016 and shared again in 2019.

None of that has mattered much to the rivalry with Ialysos, the other club on the island, whose meetings are known simply as the Dodecanese derby and draw the kind of intensity that league position never quite explains. Games against AEK Athens carry their own edge for the same reason, sharpened by stakes rather than history.

For a club that once had to buy its way back into existence, staying in the Greek Basket League is the achievement that counts, and holding that place remains the task in front of Kolossos now.
