About

The Greek Basketball Cup stands as the premier annual knockout tournament for professional clubs in Greece. Organised by the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.), the competition began in the 1975–76 season, with its inaugural final contested in 1976. While the Greek Basketball League (GBL) operates as a standard league, the Cup distinguishes itself through its elimination format.

Since the 2022–23 campaign, the event has utilised a "Final 8" structure. Qualification is secured by the top seven teams from the first half of the GBL regular season alongside the champion of the second-tier Greek UNICEF Trophy. The tournament concludes with a Final Four played in a designated host city. A notable adjustment since the 2021–22 season is the removal of the third-place match.

Panathinaikos holds the record for success, having claimed 22 titles. Olympiacos follows with 12 victories, while Aris has won eight. The current title holder is Panathinaikos, who secured the trophy by defeating Olympiacos in the 2024–25 final. Recent history shows Olympiacos winning three consecutive editions between 2021–22 and 2023–24.

Winning the Cup grants entry to the FIBA Europe Cup, the fourth-tier European competition. Should the victor already qualify for the EuroLeague or EuroCup through league performance, the European place is redistributed. The tournament has recently been known as the OPAP Cup or OPAP Final 8 due to sponsorship. The format has evolved significantly over time, shifting from large preliminary fields to the current condensed structure, with the Final Four concept being introduced in 1994, abandoned, and reinstated in 2021.
