Aarau drew 1-1 with Stade Lausanne-Ouchy in the Challenge League on Friday. The result keeps both sides in their respective positions near the top of the table. Lausanne remain first on seventeen points, while Aarau sit fourth on eleven.
The opener came early. K. Ndau found the net for the hosts in the eighth minute, giving them a lead they would defend for over forty-five minutes. To be fair, Lausanne did not panic. They kept possession and looked for openings.
The equaliser arrived after the break. M. Sartoretti scored in the fifty-fourth minute, and the game opened up. By then, yellow cards had already started to accumulate. S. Muller went off the pitch in caution in the forty-fourth minute, and the count grew through the second half.
Substitutions followed the rhythm of the game. Lausanne brought on V. Petit-Viretti in the fifty-ninth minute, and Sartoretti came off himself in the sixty-fifth. Aarau introduced Z. Tairi in the seventy-third minute and replaced N. Lusuena, who had been booked in the seventieth, in the seventy-fourth. Further changes came at the end, with B. Conus and M. Dickenmann for Lausanne in the eighty-fourth and eighty-fifth minutes.
The statistics tell a different story. Lausanne controlled possession at fifty-seven per cent and attacked more frequently, recording one hundred and twenty-seven attacks against eighty-nine. Yet their shot accuracy of forty-seven per cent produced only one goal. Aarau managed fewer chances but converted their opening moment.
The draw does little to shift the standings. Lausanne extend their unbeaten run to seven games, maintaining their lead at the summit. Aarau's third draw in seven matches keeps them within striking distance of the play-off places.
