Arau claimed a 2-1 victory over Stade Nyonnais in the Challenge League on Friday evening. The home side moved into the upper reaches of the table after three matchdays, while the visitors remain rooted to the bottom. The result extended Arau's unbeaten run to eight across all competitions and left Nyonnais still searching for their first win of the campaign.
The opening exchanges were tight, with both sides trading yellow cards in the early stages. E. Brandy went off the field after twenty-four minutes, replaced by M. Miguel, while V. Petit-Viretti also saw his evening cut short later on. Nyonnais took the lead in the thirty-sixth minute when H. Koide found the net, capitalising on a moment of defensive hesitation. The visitors had created chances but could not extend their advantage before the break.
Arau responded with greater urgency after the interval, and the equaliser came in the seventy-sixth minute. R. Baturina scored to level the contest, and the momentum shifted decisively in the home side's favour. Both teams made several changes during the final third of the match, with G. Figueiredo and Z. Tairi among those brought on for Nyonnais. The hosts had not won since their opening day victory and needed the points badly.
The match was decided in the eighty-ninth minute when M. Regillo converted a penalty to complete the turnaround. It was a cruel blow for Nyonnais, who had held firm for seventy-six minutes but could not withstand the pressure in the closing stages. The visitors found no answer to Arau's increased intensity, and the home side snatched it at the death. Two yellow cards arrived in stoppage time, but the result was never in doubt.
Arau registered ten shots with four on target, while Nyonnais managed nine attempts with only two finding the frame. Both sides created two big chances each, yet the difference lay in clinical finishing. The home team completed 277 of 359 passes, controlling 52 per cent of possession without dominating the attack. Nyonnais enjoyed more attacks at fifty-three but struggled to translate territory into clear opportunities.
The victory moves Arau up to fourth place on eleven points from seven matches. Stade Nyonnais remain in tenth position with just two points, having lost five of their seven outings this season. The gap between the two sides in the table has widened significantly after this result.
