Gaagra and Torpedo Kutaisi played out a 1-1 draw in the Erovnuli League regular season on Thursday. The result keeps both sides mid-table, with Torpedo maintaining their position above their hosts.
Gaagra took an unexpected lead through an own goal at the 21st minute. Zurab Tchavchanidze bundled the ball into his own net, giving the home side a surprise advantage. Torpedo looked uncomfortable after that and Victor Bliznichenko picked up a yellow card for the hosts at the 32nd minute.
The second half brought more movement. Diego Deisadze came on for Torpedo at the 64th minute, while Gaagra made two changes at the hour mark. Then the tide turned — at the 74th minute Guram Goshteliani equalised for the visitors, and suddenly the match was back on a knife-edge.
What followed was frantic. Torpedo substituted Mateo Stamatov at the 81st minute, and Gaagra brought on Viktor Bliznichenko himself at the 83rd minute. The tension boiled over at the 87th minute when Mate Tsintsadze was shown a yellow card and then a red, leaving Gaagra with ten men for the final three minutes.
Neither side could find a winner in the closing stages. Gaagra had more attacks overall — 119 to 123 — but Torpedo created fewer chances yet converted one. Both teams held 50 per cent possession, though the shot tally tells a different story: Gaagra fired five shots on target while Torpedo managed three.
The result means Gaagra remain eighth with 27 points from 24 games, while Torpedo stay sixth on 32 points. The hosts have now lost three of their last five matches, and this draw ends a run of two consecutive defeats.
