Gamba Osaka and Sanfrecce Hiroshima shared the points in a J-League 1 encounter that ended 0:0 at Panasonic Stadium Suita on Friday evening. The result keeps Sanfrecce fourth with eight points after four games, while Gamba remain ninth on five. To be fair, neither side had much to show for their efforts in front of goal.
The opening exchanges were already fractious. Hayao Kawabe picked up a yellow card in the ninth minute for Gamba, and Issam Jebali followed suit for the visitors just sixty seconds later. By then it was clear this wouldn't be a match of flowing football, and Takeru Kishimoto's red card in the eighty-seventh minute confirmed it.
Gamba made four changes, pulling Yotaro Nakajima off at half-time and bringing on Shu Kurata in the fifty-seventh. Sébastien Haller came on for Sanfrecce in the sixty-first minute, and by the time Kishimoto was sent off, Gamba had already replaced Kawabe in the sixty-eighth. And here's the thing — those substitutions barely shifted the balance.

What stands out is the discipline. Both sides committed their fair share of fouls — eight for Gamba, ten for Sanfrecce — but the match was ultimately decided by that late dismissal. Sanfrecce had been the better side for large periods, but Kishimoto's mistake ended any hope of a victory.
