IFK Mariehamn beat SJK Seinäjoki 2–0 in the Veikkausliiga at Arena Viklof Holding on Saturday. Rui Monteiro opened the scoring in the eighteenth minute before Noah Nurmi added a second just after the interval. The result keeps Mariehamn in twelfth place on 22 points while SJK remain tenth with 19.
Monteiro's goal came early enough to set the tone. He was substituted in the thirty-third minute and replaced by Arvid Bergvik, who was one of three players brought on at half-time alongside Oskari Väistö and Aapo Bostrom. Nurmi's strike in the forty-eighth minute put the hosts three points clear of the danger zone. By then SJK had already lost ground through a series of changes, including Jeremiah Streng coming on for J. Streng in the sixty-first minute.
SJK controlled possession at 56 per cent but created nothing of substance. They managed zero big chances compared to Mariehamn's two, and their three shots on target yielded nothing. Mariehamn's five shots on target produced two goals. The visitors attempted 30 crosses while the hosts managed 13, yet only six of those crosses found their man. The high line was picked apart when it mattered.
Mariehamn's defensive work told the real story. Twenty-nine clearances against seventeen for SJK showed where the pressure fell. The hosts also won more tackles—14 to 3—and completed 315 passes compared to SJK's 428, though possession alone meant little. Four yellow cards were shown, two to each side, with Facundo Constantini and Gospel Chibueze Junior Onuoha among those cautioned for SJK.
The visitors' recent form offered no warning. Three defeats in five matches before this fixture, including a 3–0 loss to HJK Helsinki, suggested a side searching for answers. Mariehamn's own run of results had been poor—only one win in their last five—but this performance tightened things up. The clean-sheet run came to an end for SJK, who now face a difficult run of fixtures.
