Liverpool Montevideo saw off Cerro 4-0 at Estadio Parque Alfredo Víctor Viera on Thursday night. The win keeps the hosts in seventh place on 39 points, while Cerro remain 14th with 26 after 26 games in the Primera División Apertura.
And here's the thing — the first real moment came late in the half. N. Garayalde found the net in the 58th minute, and by then the visitors had already lost their shape. A penalty added by F. Martinez in the 63rd minute made it two, and the game was effectively over.
Cerro pushed back a bit, but it was never going to change much. R. Machado scored in the 81st minute and F. Barcelo added a fourth just two minutes later. Liverpool played the second half a man up in spirit if not on paper.
The numbers tell the same story, though you don't need them to see it. Liverpool had 66 per cent possession, 94 attacks against Cerro's 69. Five shots on target for the hosts, three for the visitors — and one of those three was from a penalty.
It was a comfortable evening for Liverpool, who won 4-0 against De Fen sor Sporting last time out. Cerro, meanwhile, had beaten Albion 2-1 on their previous visit, but this was a different encounter. The relationship has soured, if you can call it that.
