Llanwellyn edge past Buckley Town in Welsh Championship
Llanwellyn kept their slim hopes alive with a 2:1 win over Buckley Town on Saturday. The result lifted the hosts up to eighth place, while the visitors remained in eleventh.Home side A. Roberts opened the scoring in the 47th minute, finishing a move down the left before Buckley's M. Williams pulled one back seven minutes later. The game settled until J. Johnson struck in the 84th minute to put Llanwellyn ahead for good.
To be fair, Buckley had looked the more dangerous side for stretches, but the visitors never quite found the width to trouble the home defence. Llanwellyn held firm when it mattered, and that was enough. By then the crowd had started to believe again.
Llanwellyn sit on ten points after seven games, their only blemishes coming in heavy defeats earlier in the campaign. Buckley remain on seven points, and the gap between them and safety is starting to look uncomfortable.
The hosts' recent form has been patchy — losses to Brickfield Rangers and Denby Town among them — but this was a game they needed. Buckley travelled to make up the numbers, but they left empty-handed.
