Podbrezová claimed a 2:1 victory over Trenčín at Arena ZELPO in the fourth round of the Superliga. The hosts took the lead through M. Chrien in the eleventh minute and extended it when P. Gonzalez struck in the fifty-fifth. R. Siler pulled one back for the visitors in the seventy-second but could not salvage a point.
The match unfolded with Podbrezová pressing forward despite sitting with less possession. They created three big chances to Trenčín's single effort, though only converted two of their eleven attempts on goal. The visitors held 57 per cent of the ball and registered six shots on target but could not find the net until late.
Discipline proved an issue for the home side. Podbrezová picked up six yellow cards compared to Trenčín's two, with P. Kovacik, J. Krivak and L. Mikulaj among those cautioned. The visitors' R. Moniz received a booking before half-time and L. Lampreht went off the field with a card in the seventy-ninth minute.
Substitutions began to reshape the game after the hour mark. M. Chrien and K. Miljanic came off together in the fifty-ninth minute, while V. Chyla entered in the sixty-seventh. Podbrezová made further changes in the eighty-seventh and eighty-eighth minutes, bringing on P. Gonzalez and R. Siler.
The result leaves Podbrezová in sixth place with ten points from seven games. Trenčín remain ninth on five points after six matches. The home side's recent form showed a mixed run including a 4:1 win over Ružomberok and a 3:2 victory against Liptovsky Mikuláš earlier in August.
