Lví Praha made light work of Strižovice at home, cruising to a 3:0 victory in the Czech Cup on Wednesday evening. The visitors controlled proceedings from the outset, and the scoreline reflected their superiority without overstating the margin. To be fair, the hosts had looked shaky in recent outings, and this result confirmed those concerns.
The away side started brightly and worked the channels effectively. They dallied on the ball when needed and struck with precision. «The crowd roared them on» for much of the contest, but Strižovice never really got going against a side that had extended its unbeaten run in this competition. By then, the visitors had already established their rhythm.
What stood out was the efficiency of Lví Praha's approach. They didn't force issues unnecessarily, but when they found space, they took it. The hosts' defence struggled to cope with the movement, and the goals came at intervals that kept the pressure on. Things came to a head when the third goal was added, and the tie was effectively over.
Recent form tells its own story here. Strižovice had lost two of their last three matches before this cup fixture, including a heavy 0:3 defeat to Liberec B. Lví Praha, meanwhile, had won their last three games comfortably, scoring multiple goals each time. «The support of the fans could be called devoted, but that is an assessment, not a fact» — what matters is that the visitors held their nerve throughout.
We had backed the visitors to win, and at 72 per cent confidence, it was a call we could stand by. The result vindicated that assessment. Lví Praha showed the composure of a team that knows how to close out games against lower-ranked opposition. They let the tie slip for Strižovice with clinical precision.
The victory moves Lví Praha further ahead in the competition. Strižovice, sitting second with four points from two games, now face questions about their consistency. The hosts had won once and lost once before this cup defeat, but the pattern of vulnerability is becoming clearer. «Will make life awkward» for those looking to strengthen their position.
