In Prague volleyball, Tatran Střešovice's counterpart has always been Slavia Praha — the city's other name in the sport.

The club traces back to Sokol Praha Střešovice, a gymnastics and sports society formed in the district in 1885, and took its present name in 1948. It was in the two decades that followed that the women's side became the strongest in Czechoslovakia, winning the national championship six times between 1961 and 1973 and reaching the final of the European Champions Cup twice, in 1971 and 1972, losing both. A Czechoslovak Cup final followed in 1974, again as runners-up.

The team still plays in orange and green, colours carried over from that era, and trains and competes in the hall on Sibeliova street in Střešovice, a short walk from where the club began. liga, where it competes now.

Regina Obadálková is the name still attached to the club above all others — voted the Czech Republic's volleyball player of the 20th century, she played through Tatran's championship run and represented Czechoslovakia at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics.
