«Volejbal Plzeň»
Plzeň lives on brewing and engineering, and its sport tends to gather under one roof rather than one name — the multi-sport club Lokomotiva carries basketball, athletics and volleyball together, and the women's volleyball side plays under that banner as Volejbal Plzeň. The organisation itself reaches back to 1907, when it began as Sokol Doprava Plzeň, but the volleyball team registered in its present form on 25 May 1990.
The team plays in the 1. liga žen, the second tier of Czech women's volleyball, in Hall 2 of the Městská sportovní hala on Úslavská Street, a venue that seats under a thousand. A team carrying the same name once stood higher: in the 1991/1992 season, Volejbal Plzeň took bronze in the Czechoslovak Extraliga, though how directly that side connects to today's roster is not something the club spells out.
Where Plzeň has kept building is underneath the senior team. The U18 side reached the Extraliga U18 Final Six in 2018/2019 and again is set to compete for it in 2025/2026, and the U20 group holds its own place in the Extraliga U20. It is a club that has learned to measure itself in years rather than trophies, sending girls through age groups long before any of them get a shot at the first team's colours of blue and white.
Ask around the hall on Úslavská and it is the junior coaches who get named first — the ones who took the U18s to a Final Six and are doing it again.
