Long before there was a volleyball team to speak of, TJ Sokol Nusle existed as a gymnastics and sports society for the Prague district it took its name from. It traces back to March 1888, and like the rest of the Sokol network it was shut down under communism and started again in 1990, the same year its women's volleyball section was formally registered, on 29 June.

The section plays out of the Sokolovna Na Květnici, a hall that holds 180 people and sits squarely within the tradition of Sokol gyms scattered across the city rather than any purpose-built arena. Competing in the Czech women's first league, Nusle had their best spell in the late 2000s and early 2010s: the league title in 2008 took them up through promotion, a runners-up finish followed in the 2010/11 season, and bronze came in 2013/14. The Czech Cup has been less kind — the club's furthest run there ended in the second round, against TJ Sokol Šternberk.

Players have passed through and moved on to bigger stages, among them Anna Rupertová, who went from the Nusle outside-hitter position to play college volleyball at Norfolk State University in the United States.

None of that history carries quite the weight of the fixture against TJ Tatran Střešovice, known simply as the "Derby se Střešovicemi" — the match Nusle's players and supporters circle on the calendar before any other.
