About the player
Emmanuel Chimeroucheya Uchegbu, known as Emma Uchegbu, started out at the Golden Boot Soccer Academy in Nigeria before making his professional debut with Ifeanyi Ubah FC in the 2020/21 season, when he made nine appearances. He moved on to Plateau United FC in September 2021, where he stayed until September 2023, and was also called up to Nigeria's U-20 squad, the Flying Eagles, taking part in the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
His move to Europe came with AS Trenčín in Slovakia, where he made 30 appearances for the senior side, scoring five goals and adding two assists. That form drew interest from Ajax Amsterdam and SC Heerenveen, though neither move materialised. In March 2025 he left Trenčín for Crown Legacy FC, the MLS Next Pro affiliate of Charlotte FC, in a deal reported at €1 million, signing a contract through 2028 with a further option for 2029. At Crown Legacy he has continued to score regularly, including a standout performance against Inter Miami II in August 2026.
In the summer of 2026, Uchegbu joined NK Varaždin in the Croatian HNL on loan for the 2026–27 season, a deal that carries no purchase option or obligation and involved no transfer fee.
