Ali Nazım Köseoğlu gathered a group of local young men in 1948 and put together a football side under the name Alanya Kalespor. Hüseyin Arıkan, as president, settled on Alanyaspor in May 1982 and fixed the colours the club still wears, orange and green.

Alanyaspor only joined the federation in full in the 1965/66 season and did not turn professional until 1984, when it entered the third tier. From there the club spent long stretches shuttling between the second and third divisions, staying in Alanya the whole time and eventually moving from the old 1,200-seat Alanya Milli Egemenlik Stadium to the Alanya Oba Stadium, now holding 9,789.

Bosnian coach Safet Sušić steadied the team through that debut top-flight season. Under Francesco Farioli in 2021/22, Alanyaspor finished fifth, matching a mark it had also reached in 2019/20, and qualified for European football.

Hasan Çavuşoğlu has run the club as president since 2011. In January 2024, FIFA imposed a three-window transfer ban over a registration dispute.
