Club Atletico Barinas

Football in the state of Barinas has long belonged to other names — Zamora FC filling Estadio Agustín Tovar, and before that the sides that grew out of Hermanos Colmenárez. What arrived in 2024 was something else: a new registration, Asociación Civil Club Deportivo Atlético Barinas, entering the second tier under its own founding date rather than inheriting one.

That distinction matters more than it sounds. Some international databases file the club against the record of Inter de Barinas, treating it as a continuation. Local records do not. They start the clock at 2024, which means everything Atlético Barinas has — a league place, a fixture list, a first season in Liga FUTVE 2 in 2024/2025 — it acquired in under two years.

Home is not the big ground in the state capital. The club plays at the Tito Salas complex in Sabaneta, the municipal seat, a venue that turns up in referee designations for the second division and little else. No published capacity. No terraces with a history attached.

The identity is still being assembled in public. League marketing has attached the capybara to the club — the chigüire, the animal of the Llanos — and match reports have picked up the phrase la manada del chigüire, the capybara herd. It functions as a mascot rather than a name the stands chose for themselves. White appears as the home colour in kit archives, though that thread runs back through the previous name.

There are no honours, which is the arithmetic of a club two seasons old. There is also no official site, no active club accounts, no squad list that has produced a player anyone outside the state discusses. Results in the Copa Venezuela and the second division are, for now, the whole record.
