Forde

Eight teenagers walked into the gymnasium at Førde barneskule on 18 September 1974 and started a volleyball club with nothing behind it but a school hall and a place too small, on paper, to matter in Norwegian sport. Sogn og Fjordane had produced no national champion in any team sport before Førde's women broke that in 2018, and the club has kept building on it since: a second cup title followed in 2019, the year the men's side also lifted the national cup, the first time one Norwegian club had taken both in the same season.

The men's side carries the heavier trophy case — six league titles between 2008 and 2019, six Norwegian Cup wins, and a Nordic Championship in 2011 that took FordeVBK, as the club is known locally, beyond its own borders for the first time. Both teams have since tested themselves further afield, in the CEV Challenge Cup and the CEV Cup.

Home is Førdehuset, built in 1976 and expanded twenty years later, holding around a thousand people under the club's blue. It is not a large arena, but it has been enough to host a run of Norwegian silverware most towns Førde's size never see.

Both squads still play in the Mizunoligaen, the top flight of Norwegian volleyball, and both go into the new season carrying a league title from earlier this year — men and women champions in the same year for a second time.
