Lyon Women

Wendie Renard has captained more of these matches than anyone else has played. The team traces back further than most outsiders assume: a women's section formed inside FC Lyon in 1970, decades before Olympique Lyonnais took it over in 2004 and made it the club's official women's arm. In May 2025 the section was rebranded again, into OL Lyonnes, with a new crest built around a roaring lioness and a name that folds the parent club's initials into the French word for lionesses.

Four earlier league titles, won as FC Lyon in the 1990s, sit ahead of that streak and bring the club's total in the French championship to nineteen. Matches against Paris Saint-Germain are billed as the Classique féminin; the closer, older rivalry is with AS Saint-Étienne, played out as the Derby Rhône-Alpes.

Home games are played at the Groupama Stadium, built to hold just over 59,000, in the club's red, white and blue. Renard, though, is the one who stayed through all of it, from the early European finals to the 2025 rebrand, still wearing the armband.
