Panserraikos

Serres sits in the shadow of the Amphipolis lion, and it's that same emblem the town's football club has worn since two local sides, Apollon and Iraklis, merged in 1946 to give the place a single team of its own. Panserraikos has spent most of the decades since shuttling through the lower rungs of Greek football, and its trophy case reflects exactly that: five titles in the Beta Ethniki, spread across 1965, 1972, 1980, 2008 and 2023. A run to the Greek Cup semi-finals in 2008-09 ended against AEK Athens, and the club has never gone further than that in the competition.

Dimitris Aivazidis is the name attached to the shirt more than any other, 378 appearances between 1979 and 1992. Up front, Thanasis Gogas remains the top scorer in the club's history with 34 goals.

Games against Doxa Drama carry their own weight here, known locally as the Aionio Nderbi, the Eternal Derby, a fixture that has little to do with league position and everything to do with the two towns either side of it.
