Extra time settled it in 2010: Saham's first Sultan Qaboos Cup win opened the door to the AFC Cup, where they held their own in a group with Al-Karamah, Al-Ahli Sana'a and Al-Wahdat, beating the Syrians 4-2 in the return leg. Edging Al-Khaboura 1-0 in the final on 30 April 2016, they won the same trophy again. Third in the Oman Elite League in 2012-13 remains their best finish, and they have gone up and down between the top flight and the First Division rather than settling there. Runners-up to Dhofar on penalties in 2012-13, champions on penalties against Al-Seeb the following season, the Oman Professional League Cup went the same way in miniature. A place in the GCC Champions League final in 2013-14, lost as runners-up, rounds out the club's best spell.

The squad has leaned on imports to stay competitive in the North Al Batinah region, among them the Ghanaian forward Derrick Sasraku and, more recently, the Moroccan Youssef Bouaibid, signed in the 2025 winter window.

Locally, the fixture that matters is against Sohar SC, the derby the region knows by the name of the Batinah coast itself, sometimes stretched to cover matches against Al Suwaiq as well. The rivalry traces back to the club's own move to Oman: founded in Kuwait in September 1970 as Al-Tadaamon Club, it relocated and was renamed Saham on 1 March 1972, taking up the blue and white that gave it the nickname the Blue Wave.
