Tallin University

Narva maantee cuts through the university district of Tallinn, and behind one of its doors sits the Vita sports hall, where the club's volleyball squads train and play out their home fixtures.

The team's line runs back to 1954/55, when it first took the court as Tallinna Pedagoogiline Instituut, tied to the teacher-training institute that gave the city its name in sport long before the university itself took its current form. The name changed with the institution around it over the following decades, but the identity on the floor held: an Estonian SSR champion five times over, in 1954, 1956, 1957, 1960 and 1961, with silver finishes either side of that run.

Independence brought a different kind of success. Under the banner TLÜ/Cartini, the women's side took Estonian titles in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and returned to the top in 2022 playing as Tallinna Ülikool/Kikas. It is the men's team, though, that has set the pace lately. Tallinn University have won the Esiliiga four seasons running, from 2023/24 through 2025/26, and this year added the first Väike Karikas to the cabinet, beating Eesti Maaülikool/Embach 3:0 in the final.

That win over the Maaülikool side sits inside the club's oldest local rivalry — the other being Tallinna Tehnikaülikool, TalTech — matches that carry more weight in Tallinn than the league table alone would suggest. Alongside Maidle, the current roster leans on Ott Nauts, Kaimar Lomp and Timo Jakobson to carry that run forward.
