Volleyball team
Tartu vald
Club · Estonia · Esiliiga
They finished second in a division — a team that did not exist the season before last, taking silver in its first shot at Estonia's second-tier volleyball league, the Esiliiga.
The club plays as Structura/Tartu vald, and the pairing of names matters: it separates the side from Bigbank Tartu, the city's Meistriliiga heavyweight with six national titles to its name. Structura/Tartu vald answers to no one at that level — it is not a feeder side, not a reserve squad, but a separate outfit building its own record from zero.
Home games are played at the Estonian University of Life Sciences Sports Hall, a venue which suits a club still writing its own.
What the second-place finish means going forward is the same question every promoted-in-spirit newcomer faces. There is no title in the cabinet yet, no run of seasons to draw on — only the one campaign.
The natural measuring stick sits across town.
