The letters VLI stand for Veterinær- og Landbohøjskolens Idrætsforening. Volleyball is one of the things that association still runs. The association itself dates from 1929.

The women's team plays in the 1. Division East, the second tier of Danish volleyball. It is the top side of a modest set-up. VLI Volley runs four women's teams and four men's teams under Volleyball Danmark. Their levels start at Serie 2 and reach the 3rd division, so a newcomer can find a team at their standard without leaving the club.

Home games are played in Kedelhallen on Nyelandsvej in Frederiksberg, a hall run by Frederiksberg Idræt rather than by the club. VLI is a tenant there, and its fixtures fit around those of the other clubs that use the building. The club also appears among the partner clubs of CityVolley, the Copenhagen volleyball network.
