The height requirements of the Austrian Volley League (AVL) are the reason VBC Weiz also uses a hall in Eggenberg, in Graz.

The club began in 1979 as a hobby side, entered official competition in 1981 and reached the Landesliga, the state league, in 1983. By the late 1980s it had more than 180 members, and the women's team played in the Styrian Cup final in 1988. Before the decade was out, both the men's and the women's teams had disbanded, and the club went back to being a hobby club. It then spent roughly ten years on youth work. The men returned to league play in 1998/99.

Promotion to the 1. Bundesliga, Austria's top division, came in 2003/04. The club went down again after one season and dropped to the Landesliga in 2006/07. It won the 2. Bundesliga Ost in 2010/11 and won it again the following year. In 2012/13 Weiz formed a syndicate with VC Gleisdorf. It was dissolved in 2013/14, and Weiz kept both league places. The club now has teams in the AVL and the 2. Bundesliga. Its main rival is UVC Graz, and the meetings between them are called the Steirerdery, the Styrian derby.

Among the current players is Sebastian Schweighofer, an outside hitter who also works as a youth trainer.
