Derby weekends in Styria's volleyball scene mean SG Gratwein/Voitsberg, VBC Weiz/Gleisdorf and UVC Bruck an der Mur, and it was Bruck that stood in the way when Leibnitz went looking for a place back in the second division: the men's team beat both Bruck and Union Döbling in a promotion round in May 2024 to earn the spot.

Staying there proved harder than reaching it. The 2. Bundesliga season that followed ended in 17th place, and the next one in 15th — enough to show the gap between winning a promotion play-off and holding your own against clubs that live in that division year-round.

The senior side's results tell only part of it. Leibnitz hosted the Austrian under-13 championship in 2025, and its own boys' team came away from the Styrian youth championships that year with a bronze medal. Alexander Wolinski, an opposite who has been at the club since the 2016/17 season, has outlasted most of the roster changes around him, while Jeremias Pock combines playing in the middle with coaching duties.

None of it has yet produced a national title or a cup run of note; the honours board stays regional and age-grade. What holds the club together goes back further than any of these seasons, to 1980, when volleyball began life as one section inside the wider Union Leibnitz sports club — a starting point closer to a gym timetable than to any grand plan.
