Nate Boyer says a college football activation tour for his veterans' foundation MVP collapsed last August after a sponsor's legal department found out he had once met with Colin Kaepernick, nine years after Kaepernick's national anthem protests began.
Boyer, a former NFL long snapper and Green Beret who served six years in the military before joining the Seahawks in 2015, had already spent thousands of dollars in upfront costs preparing MVP's trip to Columbus for Ohio State's home opener. The sponsorship, worth five figures and backed by a brand with long-standing NFL ties, was set. Then the company stopped responding.
