The club took shape in July 2020, driven by Nixon Macías Olguín and coach Óscar Tedini, and entered the province's Segunda Categoría the following year under a different name, Cimarrón Furia Verde. New leadership brought it back in 2023, and that September the sports ministry approved the switch to 22 de Julio Fútbol Club. That same year, still playing under the old name, the side reached the national Segunda Categoría semi-final and lost the tie to Leones del Norte.

Home games are played at Estadio Folke Anderson, which holds 14,000.

The ground has stayed in Esmeraldas so far, though not for certain.
