The men behind Herrera Fútbol Club came from the Azuero peninsula, and what they bought in 2016 was not an empty slot but a slate already occupied: the place of Chepo Fútbol Club in the Panamanian league, taken over on 5 July of that year. For its first three seasons the side played under a different name, Azuero Fútbol Club, before the club board dropped that identity at the end of 2019 in favour of the one it carries now, tied to the province rather than the peninsula.
Chitré is home ground, and so is the Estadio Los Milagros de Chitré, known locally also as the Estadio Gustavo Posam, a compact venue holding 1,000 spectators.
Herrera's clearest mark on the league so far came in the 2021 Torneo Clausura, when the team reached the final and met Tauro FC. The match ended 3-0, and the runners-up medal remains the closest the club has come to a trophy. Nothing before or since has matched that run.
Two nicknames travel with the team, La Berraquera and Los Tiburones, the Sharks, though neither has yet attached itself to a signature result beyond that single Clausura campaign.
