«The Monks»
The name came from the district's patron saint. When the club dropped its old title of Club Deportivo La Previsora in 1992 and became San Francisco Fútbol Club, it took the name of San Francisco de Paula. The saint was a monk, and that is how the players ended up as Los Monjes — The Monks — a nickname that sits oddly on a side the town's other name for them treats as a heavyweight: El Poderoso de la Chorrera.
Founded in September 1971, the club spent two decades in district football and got into the newly formed ANAPROF by acquiring La Previsora's professional slot rather than by winning promotion.
Two more arrived under the renamed Liga Panameña de Fútbol, the second of them in the 2014–15 Apertura, in a season that also brought the Copa Panamá.
Michael Murillo and Fidel Escobar both came through the academy before going on to the Panama national team, and they are not alone in that. Further back, Agustín Castillo — Pantro to the terraces — was named the league's most valuable player in 1992, the year the club changed its name.
