Rīgas FS

Riga is home to two clubs whose meetings outdraw everything else in Latvian football, and Rīgas FS is the newer half of that rivalry. RFS's place among Latvia's elite dates only to 2016, when Skonto lost its Virslīga licence and it passed instead to Rīgas futbola skola, a side then playing in the second tier. That club had already lived through several names: registered in 2005 as FSK Daugava 90, promoted to the top flight in 2008 as FK Daugava, relegated the following season, then rebuilt through the lower divisions as Rīgas futbola skola before the licence transfer put it back among the country's best.

The Virslīga title has followed three times since, in 2021, 2023 and 2024, alongside Latvian Cups in 2019, 2021 and 2024 and the Latvian Super Cup in 2025.

Europe has mattered to RFS more than to most clubs its size. It reached a European group stage for the first time in 2022, in the Conference League, then went further in 2024/25 by qualifying for the Europa League group stage. On 23 January 2025 it beat Ajax 1-0, a Latvian club's first group-stage win in a UEFA competition.

Roberts Savaļnieks holds the club's appearance record with 213 games, Emerson Deocleciano remains its top scorer with 53 goals, and Jānis Ikaunieks was the key figure through the title seasons of 2023 and 2024. The club is run as chief executive by Māris Verpakovskis, a former Latvia international.

RFS's own ground is LNK Sporta Parks in Riga, where the main stand holds around 1,700; a second stand along the river adds a few hundred more for the games that need it.
