US Monastirienne

The one league medal that has eluded them ever since is the Ligue Professionnelle 1 title; the trophy that arrived instead came in the cup. In April 2020 Monastir beat Espérance de Tunis 2–0 in the final of the Tunisian Cup, the first major honour of any kind in the club's history, and followed it that same year with the Tunisian Super Cup. The run was managed by Lassaad Chabbi.

What Chabbi's side started has held since. Monastir has gone on to reach the CAF Champions League group stage in three separate campaigns.

The club did not begin as Monastir. It was founded on 17 March 1923 as Ruspina Sports, and only became Union Sportive Monastirienne in June 1942, when financial troubles forced Ruspina to dissolve and its assets and players passed into the new club. Long before that cup final, the closest USM came to a league crown was in the second tier, which it won four times between 1976 and 2011 on the way up.

Faouzi Benzarti is the name attached most closely to the club, having spent his entire playing career there before later returning as coach. Games against Étoile Sportive du Sahel, from neighbouring Sousse, are still billed locally as the Coastal Derby.

The top division itself remains out of reach. Runner-up finishes in 2021–22, 2023–24 and 2024–25 have put Monastir within touching distance of Ligue Professionnelle 1 three times in four seasons, and each time the title has gone elsewhere.
