Vejen Basketballklub ended the 2024/2025 season with an 89–64 win over Gladsaxe in the 1. Division final, sealing a return to the Basketligaen for the first time in years. The promotion capped a run that had already announced itself three seasons earlier, when the club topped the 1. Division West regular season in 2021/2022 — a title that settled nothing on its own, since the league's format still demanded a further climb through the play-offs before the top flight was reached. That climb also ran through the Danish Cup, where Vejen beat BC Copenhagen to reach the quarter-finals before running into Bakken Bears.

The club has carried the name BKV '81 since it was formed on 1 January 1981, the year folded into the initials rather than spelled out on the shirt. It plays out of Vejen Idrætshal, part of the wider SportsCenter Denmark complex, where 1,250 spectators fit around the court — a hall built for a town rather than for top-flight ambition, which made the 2025 promotion as much a question for the building as for the roster.

Basketligaen membership puts Vejen back among clubs it has not had to measure itself against on a weekly basis for some time, Bakken Bears foremost among them after that cup meeting. A small-town side returning to Denmark's top division after working its way up through the regional rounds of the 1. Division starts the new season looking to prove the West title and the final win over Gladsaxe were a floor, not a ceiling.
