Cotonsport

Garoua sits on the Bénoué river in Cameroon's far north, a cotton town before anything else, and it is that trade that built the club. Sodecoton, the state cotton company, owns Coton Sport, and the name on the badge is the same word the region lives by: Les Cotonniers.

No side in Cameroon has matched what the club did through the 2000s and into the 2020s. Eighteen Elite One titles, the most recent in 2023, with long unbroken runs — 2003 to 2008 was one stretch of six straight, a period that left the rest of the domestic game chasing. The Coupe du Cameroun has been added seven times over the same span. In 2008 the club went further than any Cameroonian side manages most seasons, reaching the final of the CAF Champions League and finishing runner-up.

Stade Roumdé Adjia, expanded to 30,000 after work finished in 2018, fills for one fixture above all: the Derby du Nord against Gazelle FA, the other club from Garoua, a match with no love lost between two sides sharing one small city.

The academy has done its own work quietly. Vincent Aboubakar came through it before his career carried him well beyond Cameroon, and his name is still the one supporters bring up first when the subject turns to what Garoua has produced rather than bought.

Green and white, and a trophy cabinet that keeps needing more room — the championship won in 2023 was not a one-off but the latest entry in a habit the club has not broken in twenty years.
