Fortuna Mfou

No fixture on the calendar defines Fortuna the way it might elsewhere in Cameroon: the club plays out of Mbankomo, a town of its own, and its recent rise has been measured against the table.

That rise is the more useful thread. Fortuna reached the Elite One in 2018, finished the season fourteenth, and then began climbing: fourth in 2019, fourth again in 2020, third in the 2020-21 campaign, a season that went to play-offs to settle it. No trophy sits behind any of those finishes, but a club that had never been in the top flight before 2018 does not usually arrive and sit three points off the podium within two years.

The Centre sportif académique de Mbankomo, where Fortuna play their home games, holds a thousand people and is laid with synthetic grass, a small ground for a club now measuring itself against the competition.

It was 1998 when AS Fortuna de Mfou was set up in the town that gives it its name.
