About

The PBA Commissioner's Cup serves as one of the three annual conferences within the Philippine Basketball Association, the premier professional basketball league in the Philippines. While the league itself dates back to 1975, the Commissioner's Cup was inaugurated in 1993, initially known as the "Second Conference." It underwent a hiatus from 2003 to 2010 before being reinstated in 2011. The competition operates as a closed system, meaning there is no promotion or relegation, and currently features twelve franchises. The season structure follows a standard elimination round followed by playoffs. The top eight teams advance to the postseason, with the top two seeds granted a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals. The semifinals are contested as best-of-five series, while the finals are played as best-of-seven. A key distinction of this specific conference is the allowance of one foreign import player per team without height restrictions. This rule differentiates it from the All-Filipino Cup, where such imports are not permitted. The San Miguel Beermen hold the record for the most titles in this conference with five wins. The current reigning champion is TNT Tropang Giga, following their victory in the 2024–25 season. Recent history includes a notable 2015 finals Game 7, which saw a combined 240 points scored in double overtime, marking the highest-scoring game in PBA finals history. The participating clubs for the ongoing season include Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, Blackwater Bossing, Converge FiberXers, Macau Black Bears, Magnolia Hotshots, and Meralco Bolts.
