Angers

Salle Jean Bouin sits on rue Saint-Léonard, and it says something about EAB that the address doubles as a piece of the club's own history: Saint-Léonard is the district that gave its name to one half of the merger that made the club what it is.

Étoile Angers Basket took its current form in 2017, but the parts that went into it were already old by then. One strand ran back to Angers Basket Club 49, founded in 1981 and a fixture of Pro A between 1996 and 2001 before it settled into the lower divisions. The other reached further, to Étoile Sportive Saint-Léonard in 1945, the root from which Étoile d'Or Saint-Léonard Angers eventually grew. The merger did not invent a club so much as knot two separate basketball lineages of the same city together.

What EAB inherited, it built on quickly. It won the Nationale Masculine 1 title in 2022 and used it to climb into Pro B, then followed with the Leaders Cup Pro B in 2023. That momentum did not hold: financial trouble sent the club back down to Nationale Masculine 1 in 2024, and an offer to reinstate it administratively in Pro B was turned down rather than accepted.

The older silverware belongs to the Angers BC 49 side of the family — two Coupe de France Amateur wins, in 1992 and 1994.
