Salle Michel Vrignaud holds a little over 2,400 people.

The club's best years came in the 1970s and 1980s, when Barry White, capped 43 times for France, played alongside Valéry Demory and Kevin Figaro. That side won the Coupe de France in 1983, beating Lyon in the final. Relegations in 1979 and 1982 were a warning, and financial and administrative trouble in 1987 pushed the club out of the professional tiers altogether, down through Nationale 2 to Nationale 4 by 1989 and further still, to Regional 3, in 1993.

It finished in June 2025, when Challans beat Mulhouse 80–70 to win the NM1 title and earn promotion to Pro B.

Régis Boissié belongs to the club's more recent memory, having played for Challans between 2010 and 2012 before going on to work as a coach — one of the few links between the years in the lower divisions and the team that finally forced its way back up.
