Atenas

Atenas spent thirty-six consecutive seasons in the Liga Nacional before dropping out in 2022–23, won its way straight back by taking the Liga Argentina the following year, and was relegated again in 2025–26.

The club dates to April 17, 1938, when fifteen directors reorganized the New Tennis Club, running since 1934, and renamed it after Athens and an earlier Córdoba side called Alta Córdoba. The nickname that followed, El Griego, comes from the same choice. Green and white have been the colours ever since.

Nine Liga Nacional titles, the last in 2008–09, sit alongside three Liga Sudamericana de Clubes crowns, two Campeonato Sudamericano titles and a Campeonato Panamericano won in 1996. Marcelo Milanesio, at the club from 1982 to 2002, was part of fourteen of those championship squads. Fabricio Oberto, who debuted in 1993–94, and Walter Herrmann both wore the shirt before winning Olympic gold with Argentina in 2004 and moving on to the NBA; Diego Osella's number 11 has since been retired.

Since May 2024 the club has played at the Estadio Estructuras Pretensa Atenas, 4,278 seats that replaced the old Polideportivo Municipal — later renamed for Carlos Cerutti, the coach who won the 1987 title.

No fixture matters more than the one against Ferro Carril Oeste, the Buenos Aires club Atenas has faced often enough to call it a clásico of its own: 52 wins to 38 across their history.
