Argentino de Junín began as a breakaway. In the Las Morochas neighbourhood, a group of members left a local society called Imperio Británico and set up their own club, which was registered on 1 October 1935. Most of the founders and early members were of Syrian-Lebanese descent. It wears blue and white.

The gymnasium on Almirante Brown, El Fortín de las Morochas, opened in 1950 and was remodelled in 2010. For seven years before that rebuild, from 2003, the club took its biggest Liga Nacional de Básquet (LNB) games out of the neighbourhood to the Estadio Héctor Matrero D'Annunzio, under the Cúpula of the Sociedad Rural de Junín, which held 3,500.

The rise came through the second division. In 2010 Argentino beat San Martín de Corrientes 3–2 in the Torneo Nacional de Ascenso final and reached the LNB for the first time. Santiago Scala came through as a star that season. Relegation followed in 2011. The club won the second-tier title again in 2011–12, beating Unión Progresista in the final and Oberá Tenis Club in a playoff, and came back up. Pablo Martínez is remembered as a key figure in both titles.

The best years in the top flight were 2013 and 2014. In 2013–14 Argentino reached the LNB semifinals, and in both of those years it also reached the semifinals of the Liga Sudamericana de Clubes. Juan Cangelosi captained the side for years and is still spoken of as a club legend. The LNB title and the Copa Argentina have never come.

Recent seasons have been harder, with financial trouble and relegation to the second division after the 2023–24 playoffs.

The Fortín holds 1,500 people.
