«Gomel Lynxes»
Gomel's best basketball years belong to a country that no longer exists. As Sozh, the club took the BSSR championship four years running, from 1988 to 1991, and added the republic's cup in 1988 and 1989.
Independence brought a new league and a harder road. Playing as Spartak-Conditer, the club reached the Belarusian championship final twice, in 2000 and 2002, and finished third in 2001 and again in 2013, but the title itself never followed, nor did the national cup, where three runner-up finishes in 2000, 2001 and 2002 were the closest it came. In that same 1999-2000 season the club also took its one turn on the European stage, reaching the preliminary round of the Korać Cup.
Vladimir Veremeenko is the name the club points to first: he came through the Gomel system, made his professional debut there in 1999, and went on to be drafted by the Washington Wizards in 2006 after spells at Dynamo St Petersburg and UNICS Kazan.
Games are played at the Universal Hall of Game Sports on Bogdana Khmelnitskogo Street, which seats 750.
