About

The Belarusian Basketball Premier League operates at the apex of the domestic pyramid, serving as the primary stage for professional basketball in the country. Founded in 1992 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the competition has evolved from its initial 1992–93 campaign into a structured league governed by the Belarusian Basketball Federation. Unlike the separate Belarusian Basketball Cup, which functions as a knockout tournament held in autumn, the Premier League determines European qualification spots, such as those for the FIBA Champions League, through its regular championship format.

The season structure relies on a double round-robin regular season where clubs face each other twice. This phase feeds into a playoff stage that typically includes quarterfinals, semifinals, and a deciding final. The championship series employs a best-of-five format, requiring a team to secure three wins, while earlier rounds often utilize a best-of-three system. Although the league historically features between 11 and 13 teams, including reserve squads, the current roster includes clubs such as Borisfen, Brest, Gomel, and Grodno.

Historical dominance has shifted over time, with Minsk-based clubs holding significant records. BC Minsk, formerly known as Tsmoki-Minsk, holds the record for the most titles with 16 championships, including a run of ten consecutive wins from 2012 to 2022. However, recent results highlight a change in power dynamics. Grodno-93 emerged as the current champion for the 2025–26 season, securing its tenth title in consecutive seasons and ending a long period of Minsk dominance. While promotion and relegation rules between the Premier League and the second-tier Vysshaya Liga remain unclear in public sources, the existence of a lower division is confirmed. The competition continues to operate through its official governance structure, maintaining its position as the central event for Belarusian basketball.
